I served as art director and lead illustrator for Team Coco’s Comedy Club, an animated stand-up storytelling series on Snapchat’s Discover platform. Produced by Team Coco in collaboration with TBS, the series featured six comedians. I developed a loose, expressive illustration style that complemented their performances. A longtime fan of Conan O’Brien since high school, I was thrilled to contribute to this project. My Illustrations and art direction brought each comedian’s humorous narrative to life, capturing the essence of live comedy while engaging Snapchat’s mobile-first audience.
Team Coco's Comedy Club:
The series featured six comedians, each sharing 3–3.5-minute stories enhanced by animation. I art-directed and illustrated every episode, collaborating closely with Conan O’Brien’s team to bring each funny story to life.
Capturing Characters:
Conan was a good sport. He put up with some of my more crazy requests for illustrative reference.
Storyboards:
I collaborated closely with a creative team to develop detailed storyboards for each episode of Team Coco’s Comedy Club, ensuring alignment with client vision. By carefully adhering to Team Coco’s feedback and direction, I crafted storyboards that effectively guided the animation process while capturing the unique tone of each comedian’s narrative.
Creating a style:
I developed an original, loose, and cartoony illustration style for the six episodes of Team Coco’s Comedy Club to match the series’ comedic tone. By experimenting with bold lines and playful, flat colors, I was able to craft visuals that effectively communicated each comedian’s story and humor.
Final Character Art:
I brought each of the six comedians to life for Team Coco’s Comedy Club by carefully referencing their likeness to create authentic, expressive character designs. Using Adobe Character Animator, I created and rigged each character for animation, streamlining production to meet the tight three-month deadline for 30 minutes of animation.
